Port of Superior

Lake Superior’s Historic Maritime Hub

The City of Superior, Wisconsin, forms the essential western half of the Twin Ports — a metropolitan area shared with Duluth, Minnesota. In addition to moving significant amounts of private and public cargo, the Ports and City of Superior are significant historical locations, from early 17th century fur trading to the city’s birth in the mid 19th century.

As the Superior settlement grew, it nourished the booming rail and shipping industries, turning the infant city into a transportation hub. Now, the city and Port serve as cornerstones for regional and global trade, recreation and tourism, boosting the metropolitan’s greater economy.

The Southern Half of the Twin Ports

The City of Superior is located at the western end of Lake Superior in Northwestern Wisconsin. The area has a total area of 55.4 square miles and is bordered by St. Louis Bay, Superior Bay and Allouez Bay.

The Port of Superior Impact

The Twin Ports are known as some of the largest and most important cargo ports in the nation, creating a significant economic impact on the region, nation and world. The City of Superior is also home to recreational waterfront access and activities, including tourist destinations like Barkers Island Marina and Wisconsin Point.
