The Largest Natural Deep-Water Port in West Michigan

A key commercial and recreational hub, the Port of Muskegon serves as a vital engine for regional trade. Handling aggregate, salt, and manufactured goods for West Michigan, the port offers five commercial docking facilities and year-round access through a federally maintained deep-water channel.

In addition to commercial port facilities, 12 recreational marinas and over 20 charter fishing operations operate on Muskegon Lake. As a popular cruise ship port, Port of Muskegon also provides high speed ferry services to Milwaukee, connecting Western Michigan and Eastern Wisconsin.

Other significant facilities include NOAA Lake Michigan Field Station, Annis Water Research Institute, Regional U.S Coast Guard station and 3 historic ship vessels museums.

The Port of Muskegon sits where the mouth of the Muskegon river meets the eastern shore of Lake Michigan, approximately 114 miles northeast of Chicago. With direct access to Class I rail and the I-96 corridor, the Port of Muskegon is West Michigan’s portal for domestic and international maritime logistics.
