Port of Monroe

Michigan’s Gateway Port

Dubbed the “Mariner’s Port” by customers and “The Biggest Little Port” on the Great Lakes and St. Lawrence Seaway System, the Port of Monroe is the gateway to Michigan’s multimodal transportation network. The Port is also known as the industrial, commercial and recreational access point for the city of Monroe, Michigan.

The Port currently handles a highly diversified range of commodities, including coal, limestone, steel, and large project cargoes like wind energy components. It offers premier transportation access as a direct connection to the Great Lakes-St. Lawrence Seaway System and direct access to two Class I railroads and major interstates, serving as a significant transportation hub in the Midwest.

Michigan’s only port on Lake Erie.

The closest convergence of major freight in the region, Port of Monroe is located on the deep-draft frontage of the River Raisin. It sits on Lake Erie, 35 miles south of Detroit and 17 miles north of Toledo.
