Port of Lorain

Driving Development Through the Waterways

The Lorain Port and Finance Authority sits on the southern shore of Lake Erie, accessing a deep-water navigational channel that supports both domestic bulk cargo and international freight activity. While an active commercial port, it also serves as a redevelopment group focused on revitalizing Lorain’s waterfront for recreational access. Through public-private partnerships and waterfront planning, the Port is transforming former industrial properties into spaces for recreation, business development and community access, strengthening economic growth throughout the region.

Providing Public Access to Lake Erie

Port Lorain is located at the mouth of the Black River, right where the waterway intersects with Lake Erie. The port has a 60-mile outer harbor and 2.6 miles of federal channel on the Black River.

The Lorain Port Impact

With the goal of driving economic development through its waterways, the Lorain Port and Finance Authority is committed to building a strong and secure economic center, supporting businesses, jobs and long-term regional growth.
