On August 9, 2019, the Port of Green Bay hosted the American Great Lakes Ports Association annual summer meeting. The two day event included guest speakers on a variety of topics. These included presentations on progress at the Great Lakes Maritime Academy, efforts to enact Congressional reforms to harbor maintenance funding, the potential threat to commerce posed by increased water flows on the St. Lawrence River to relieve flooding on Lake Ontario; efforts by the Great Lakes Governors and Premiers to advance their maritime strategy; a briefing on the State of Wisconsin’s Harbor Assistance Program; and new software being developed to better manage vessel traffic on the Seaway. The highlight of the meeting was an outing to Lambeau Field to watch the Green Bay Packers take on the Houston Texans in the Packers’ first pre-season home game.
The Association’s next meeting will be held in February, 2020 in Washington, DC.
